Welcome! You are one of the first visitors to our new site.
SeeMyTrack is a brainchild of two sports and IT-enthusiasts, Vesa and Jouni, from Helsinki, Finland.
History of the SeeMyTrack dates back to November 2007, when after months of development we launched a website called the Sailing Register. The idea with the Sailing Register was to develop a sailing website for race results. Soon after the launch we got lots of feedback about the site and we quickly realised that instead of race result website, there was a greater need for sailboat GPS tracking services. Sailing competitions are difficult to follow and regatta organisers are constantly faced with questions of how to make the sport more accessible for the spectators.
Instead of rushing into developing a new site, we started a co-operation with a finnish company called GPS-seuranta to provide GPS tracking services to the sailing community. In summer of 2008, we did real-time GPS tracking for a local archipelago race called Emäsalon Lenkki. Feedback from the organisers and from the participants was very positive. We were also delighted to see that we had hundreds of online spectators for the race. Eventhough there was minimal marketing for the event. In summer of 2009, we did similar GPS tracking service for the Melges 24 Nordic Championships. Melges 24 is a top level internation sailboat class with lots of interest all over the world. Again feedback on our service positive. What suprised us was the online tracking had online spectators in total from 28 different countries and total spectator count was count in thousands visits. These experiences made us to think that GPS tracking service is rather untapped resource in terms of adopting it to sports marketing purposes.
With SeeMyTrack, we wanted to create a website to let users to upload and share their own GPS tracks. The key lesson we have got over the years is that what ever the website, it needs to have a single focus and more importantly it needs to be dead simple to use.
Our goal is that SeeMyTrack provides a tool that enables anyone utilising GPS tracking to whatever sport, event, or activity to attract spectators in great numbers. After all, GPS tracking provides a unparalled birds-eye view to any event.
Hopefully you will enjoy using the SeeMyTrack and please also give us feedback whether we are going to the right direction. Launch of the SeeMyTrack also represents end to the Sailing Register, we will maintain domain and some past results for future reference for some time. You will find the archived files in the footer navigation.
As usual, we will continuously upgrade the service to the best of our abilities. New features and updates will be published in this blog, so please bookmark us.
Cheers,
Vesa
